The rate tables

Every number we hold, in the open. Each one shows the document it came from and the date we checked it. Thin numbers are flagged, not hidden.

  • City of Los Angeles: Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO)

Rental units in the City of Los Angeles whose first certificate of occupancy was issued before October 1, 1978, in buildings of two or more units. A detached single-family home that is the only dwelling unit on its parcel, and a building first occupied after October 1, 1978, are generally not RSO, but most are still covered by the city's Just Cause Ordinance (JCO) and by state law.

  • Los Angeles County (unincorporated): Rent Stabilization & Tenant Protections Ordinance (RSTPO)

Rental units in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County, not inside any city. Places like Altadena, East Los Angeles, Ladera Heights, View Park–Windsor Hills, Marina del Rey and Hacienda Heights are unincorporated.

  • City of Santa Monica: Rent Control

Controlled rental units in the City of Santa Monica. The Rent Control Board's own overview says most residential rental buildings in the city built before April 10, 1979 are covered, along with certain units built after that date, and that Rent Control also applies to certain single-family homes and condominiums.

  • City of West Hollywood: Rent Stabilization

Rent-stabilized units in the City of West Hollywood: dwellings on properties with two or more units first occupied, or issued a certificate of occupancy, on or before July 1, 1979. Those are the units under the full Rent Stabilization Ordinance (WHMC Chapter 17). Newer units and most single-family homes and condominiums fall outside it.

  • California AB 1482: Tenant Protection Act (statewide)

The statewide fallback. It applies to units that are not covered by a stricter local rent-control ordinance and are not exempt. Where a local ordinance applies, the local cap is used instead.

  • Likely no rent cap applies

Based on what you told us, no local rent-control ordinance and no statewide AB 1482 rent cap appears to apply. That is a starting point, not a ruling. Just-cause eviction rules, registration requirements and deposit rules can still apply even when a rent cap does not.
